For so long, Daddy has missed the major events around here. Last year, he missed the fourth of July. The children were quite devastated by this... and decided to commandeer a hot air balloon, a shovel, and a mylar suit and whisk him away back home. They had similar plans during Halloween, but that's a different story.
As one of my major mommy duties is to help ease their pain when their baby hearts are breaking, I told them how their Daddy saves the Fourth of July every year. And, in actuality, it's not really that far from the truth. The story goes something like this:
There are bad guys out there who want to do bad things, and Daddy's job is to help the other soldiers catch them and send them to jail. If there was no Air Force, the bad guys would be able to do lots of bad things, and even take away our fireworks. Daddy makes sure that they are in jail where they belong, so they can't do any bad things in America.
The lesson: The military protects our independence. Without the military, we might be speaking Estonian. Without the military, we'd no Independence Day celebration. Daddy is one of many who ensures that every year, we still do. Fireworks and all.
